The North Face Thermoball is a brand new release from North Face. It is a one hundred percent synthetic jacket which claims to have greater insulation abilities than its preceding ThermoBall jacket editions.
The jacket is not only well insulated it is incredibly warm. One of the features we liked most this ThermoBall jacket as appose to previous editions is how easy it is to store due to how small you can pack it down to be. The down jacket has long been the jacket of choice for explorers and all those who spend extended periods in cold climates due to its compact design and efficiency in maintaining body temperature.
The Northface ThermoBall Jacket is made of a synthetic material which mimics the down insulation that has for so long been the best material to make winter jackets out of.
The NorthFace ThermoBall Jacket has a 15 Denier Nylon baffle pattern on the outside, this is accomplished using a unique insulation material. Normally synthetic jackets are constructed using long, continuous fibres, which are curated together in ‘sheets’. This jacket is not constructed like that. It was developed with PrimaLoft, a leading company in the synthetic jacket market. The ThermoBall insulation is made in a similar fashion to down cluster jackets, but with a few distinct difference. Instead of long sheets like other synthetic jackets and even down jackets, there are millions of synthetic balls sewn under sheets of synthetic material to retain heat and insulate.
The clusters of balls that are in this design provide much more warmth than the alternative materials and unlike the down material that many jackets are made of it is completely resistant to water. For a jacket that is mostly used in an environment that has snow, water and sweat this is one of the most obvious and huge advantages this jacket has over its competition.
The jacket has a mid-layer insulator and is designed for being used as a layer between a warmer thermal base-layer and a harder exterior layer. Or on some milder days as a single garment to be worn.
The ThermoBall is a very impressive jacket from NorthFace, but it comes at a steep price. At $95.00 – $269.98 it is nothing to scoff at. It is flawless in all conditions including damp and snowy conditions providing warmth and comfort where many other jackets fail. The thermoball technology behind this jacket really is a break through in terms of technology and we look forward to what will happen next with thermoball technology.
